Atkinson, Michael - Michael a native Texan, has a Smoky Ridge studio where he creates art that "captures the emotion, be it subtle or exaggerated".
He has a degree from Texas Tech University in the field or architecture. This architectural training is reflected in the images he creates, buildings, oceanscapes, animals and southwestern landscapes. His style shows great technical mastery of watercolor and is somewhat abstract , but completely convincing in the depiction of his subject matter. His landscapes often have a Native American or Southwestern appeal.
White spaces characterize the look he wishes to achieve. These white spaces and not "empty" but an important design element in leading the eye to focus on the central image. Often times the white spaces will take the form of a bird increasing or decreasing in size to lead the viewer to a better understanding of the statement the artist is making.
